The birds are basketed and Rick will be letting them out for a loft fly tomorrow - as the basket list wouldn't pull through to wincompanion today. Sorry for the delay - but I'm having issues with wincompanion. I'll be on the horn to our support in the morning. Thanks for your patience as we get into the regular routine of scanning them.
There are 338 birds that we manually basketed today.
From the handling today - Rick is really excited for them to train...they handled fantastic. He said to me that he's very impressed with the quality of the birds that people sent in this year. Thanks to everyone for great birds to work with!
Watch for tomorrow's clocking from the open race basketing that we did today - it should show through on wincompanion tomorrow.
Tomorrow I will do a Facebook Live to show the race entry list (basketing list) that I have sitting in my hands right now. This will confirm for you that the inventory was completed...just not uploading as I hoped for. Every year, I work through this and I apologize for the delays.

Good evening everyone
Rick and I are doing a hand inventory much later this evening...so watch for it tomorrow morning. Our plan is to do a hand inventory every Sunday each week. Training as well is getting underway soon!
Posted a few videos of today on Facebook and Instagram - take a peak - the birds look great!
Take a peak...have a great night!
The one loft birds have been enjoying loft flies this week...all sections out together each day. The days have been spotty with still a lot of sunshine, but often some showers throughout the day. This morning, mid morning, we had quite the thunder and lightening storm.
This weekend, we'll do a hand scanned inventory - logged properly, so that you can see the status of the birds.
Monday, Rick will be basketing all of the birds, of course dependent on weather, and he'll let them out in our front yard to get them used to be released, and more practice flying together.
Excited to see this part start!
Have a great night...see you soon!
Rick and I made it through our first inventory...a little rough with the upload...and still not 100% correct, but we're on our way to getting things looking clearer.
There are currently 340 listed in wincompanion, however we had 350 banded and 345 actually showed up on the module for clocking. I've manually listed 3 - these were "unassigned", something that happens when the band number doesn't exactly match what is read in the module...so I've fixed those ones. 2 of Milano Loft birds as well as Brad Wogan's 5th bird are in the coop.
I'm working on listing the ones actually missing - as missing...again, a work in progress!
Rick worked on the inside of the coop today - in the crazy heat. He finished up the electronic system and made trapping boxes to ensure we capture bands in the module when the birds scan across the pads. This went better than last year, as we had to do some adjustments to the trapping space, but as you can see, we're still missing a few of the bands in today's inventory.
We'll do another this week - to see how it looks.
Tune into our Facebook page - as I did a Facebook Live tonight to show the new trapping boxes and have a quick chat.
Have a great week everyone,
Hopefully you are able to access our Facebook or Instagram pages, as we've posted some great pics of some of the birds tonight from our banding process.
I also posted a couple of videos from Rick calling in the birds from a larger loft fly this afternoon (again on Facebook and Instagram). I've been having problems uploading pictures and videos directly to the website - apologies on that...I will keep trying to change the gallery so that you can access some newer photos **UPDATE** - just got some pics on the website - they're at the bottom of the Gallery Page...check them out!
Hope everyone is having a great night...see you soon on Facebook Live!
Well it's been a very rainy week this past week...can always tell since I don't have to water our plants much lately!
The birds did get some squeaked in loft flying time ovee the week, but me, I didn't venture out to the loft much, too soggy for my feet...so the pictures and videos lacked this week. Rick is hoping the weather is better this week for some larger loft flies to happen!
Aiming for a Facebook Live tomorrow evening, where we can say hello and show off the birds a bit.
Hope you all had a great weekend, see you tomorrow!
A quick update for you...sections 9 & 10 were out flying today. The weather became ugly late afternoon with thunderstorms and winds. Most days Rick is alternating sections and all the birds are getting in some loft flying times.
Continuing with the electronic banding this week. When all are banded and scanned, and confirmed with their appropriate number, we'll be able to get an inventory posted.
Have a great evening, and we'll get some pictures up again soon on Instagram and Facebook!
Rick and I wanted to let you know we have finished the electronic bands for sections 5 and 6 now. Sections 1 through 6 are now done.
We've also posted some great photos of a few of the birds from sections 5 and 6 while we were banding, onto Facebook and Instagram.
It was rainy off and on all day today - the weather looks pretty wet most of the week coming up.
Hope you all have a great Monday, see you soon online!
Good evening everyone,
Was much better weather here today, no rain, and the sun wasn't beating as hard as it has been...great day.
Birds were close to the loft - as it was Rick's own race day (Saturdays always tends to be this way!). Loft sections were cleaned today and a Facebook Live tour was completed earlier this evening. Tune into our Facebook page to see the post.
All the birds are looking healthy. We have banded sections #1 through #4 and are working on the rest of the coop this week. It's lengthy process, but it's getting there! I had some issues with entering the data into the unikon program, where I actually had to do it 2x...as I accidentally deleted the first listing. Uggg...it's done now.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
The weather has been hotter than normal for MANY days now...humidity is crazy, and it's hard to stay outside for very long. Rick has managed to time loft flies well, having multiple sections out at once. The birds are starting to fly higher and in bigger groups...great to see.
Electronic bands are on the birds in sections 1 through 4...and I've got ALL the birds band numbers entered in unikon for the electronic banding system. Still have to scan them through to coordinate the band with their number...it's getting there!
