The weather down here has been sweltering and humid. To improve airflow on stagnant days, we installed an exhaust fan on the gable end. The racing pigeons are still in excellent health. We've completed an inventory of the birds and administered a salmonella vaccine shot. Just to recap our vaccine schedule: when birds first arrive at the loft during the acceptance period, they receive a pmv & pox vaccine, and then a pmv booster after 3 weeks for those who didn't receive the first shot at home before shipping. Finally, during the inventory, we administer a salmonella vaccine.
The racing pigeons have continued to fly for 30 to 60 minutes in the morning and 15 to 20 minutes at night. Our plan is to continue flying the birds and then, starting September 1st, to gradually increase flying time to 60-90 minutes in the morning and 45-60 minutes at night. Training is set to begin on October 1st, once we have cooler temperatures to give the birds the best opportunity for success.
We're scheduled for another health checkup from the NC State University Avian Veterinarians with droppings tested around mid-August.
I plan to run the birds through the Benzing system by Saturday. I'll update you all, and you'll be able to see updates on Benzing and win-companion.

Happy Independence Day! I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.
The racing pigeons continue to be in superb health. We had NC State University AVIAN VETERINARY CENTER come out for a loft visit. All birds appear to be in excellent health. Dropping samples were taken back to the Lab for analysis, and all results were negative.
We are working with Benzing and Win-Companion and testing the new system. You may see some loft flying testing from time to time. Don't get alarmed if you don't see your bird; we are just testing the system, and not all birds will be included in that test.
Temperatures at the beginning of the week were around a cool 85° F/29° C, which the pigeons enjoyed as they flew for 90 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes at night. Unfortunately, the hot temps are back with highs around 100° F/38° C for the next few days.
I have included a YouTube video, and as always, please like and subscribe to my channel. I need at least 50 followers to live-stream the shipping and release of the pigeons, etc.

Good morning, Pigeon fanciers!
The pigeons are doing well and are flying outside the loft every day. We are not forcing any birds to fly at this time. The temperatures average around 95 F/ 35 C with the heat index above 100 F/ 38 C.
Today we are having our 2nd visit from NC State University's Avian Veterinary Professor and 5 of her 4th-year students. I enjoy sharing my passion, exposing new people to the sport, and learning from them any tips I can implement with the pigeons to keep them in the best health.
To have complete transparency I must share an incident from last week. The pigeons were out around 7.30 pm and came down and after 20 minutes I called them in. I had a group of about 25 take off and fly. they seemed spooked and refused to land. at 8.30 pm they were still flying and the last I saw them was around 9.15 pm flying in the dark. The next day they began to arrive back looking very tired. Unfortunately, 7 did not return. I have notified all owners affected. I don't like sharing news like this but feel it's imperative to have 100% transparency.
The Benzing system is all finished and working and we will be running the birds through weekly to ensure all working before training starts. Please remember some birds are still being trap-trained and will not show in the system. When running you will be able to click the link Benzing Live and Win-Companion
I have multiple ways to keep our fanciers informed such as our website update blog, FaceBook, YouTube, Instagram, TickTok, and Win-Companion updates page. I have now implemented a WhatsApp group. I post more informal videos of the day-to-day information.
Please go and subscribe to our YouTube channel, there is a link at the bottom of the page. There are more videos that I post but are called shorts and I can't seem to upload them here only the longer videos. We still need a minimum of 50 subscribers to be able to do live-stream videos. I plan to use this to show the day of shipping and when the birds arrive home from races.

The pigeons are doing well and are flying outside the loft every day. We are not forcing any birds to fly at this time. This week is the last opportunity to send in any replacements. We have 2 missing birds and the fanciers have been notified. We had 1 bird with a damaged wing and that fancier has been notified too.
We have 2 groups that have not been out yet. Our routine is 5-7 days quarantine with vaccinations and a chip ring applied. Once in their new section, they begin trapping and learning to come in on command to the whistle, once I see satisfactory results then they are allowed out, usually 2-3 weeks.
Benzing testing has commenced and once they tell me all systems working good I will update the fanciers. I had no idea it was going to take this long and I apologize for any inconvenience. All birds have been accounted for and only 2 missing so far.
The SkyLeader GPS rings have arrived. It will be interesting to see how they truly navigate and the routes they take, and add more information for our fanciers to ponder over.
At this point in the heat of the summer, it's all about a good routine with baths weekly and exercise daily weather permitting. I thank you all for your support and rest assured I am 110% committed to providing the birds with the best care possible and keeping our fanciers informed on all platforms. Last week was the final week for accepting birds, but we will still take replacement pigeons to be mailed by Tuesday, June 18th or dropped off by Saturday, June 22nd.
I was surprised to find that almost 70% of the birds received for the inaugural event arrived in the last 3 weeks. So, I have 2 very young groups. On the other hand, I received some older pigeons on their 7th and 8th flights. I will do my best to settle them all, but for future reference, I encourage you to send in birds that are around 45 - 60 days old to give them the best opportunity for success.
The Benzing M3 clock has arrived, and the setup is almost complete. Please be aware that not all birds will show up due to the younger groups not being out yet. Once ready, I will post a link for Benzing and Win-Companion.

The pigeons are flying well and routing for 45-60 minutes. We have 2 groups left to settle; one should be out by the end of the week and the other will be out the following week. Tuesday, June 4th will be the last day to ship for any new fanciers and Tuesday, June 18th will be the last day for any replacements to be shipped.
Siegels contacted me Friday and now has our M3 clock from Benzing in Austria, it shipped Friday and tracking should arrive Wednesday. I will have to conference with their technician in South Africa to do any final updates and then we should be all set. Sorry for the delays that were out of my control.
