RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We had tornadoes in our area last night. We are okay here, but people to the west were hit hard. I understand a F5 tornado went through Vian and Gore Oklahoma and there is much damage. There may have been a few other tornadoes in surrounding areas. There were power poles snapped off near here and we have no power at this time. We are hopeful we will have power soon.

Training would not have been possible today due to really strong west winds.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

We tossed from 35 miles today in 3 groups. We waited until each group left for home then drove 5 miles between each release. The 1st group came together but we had a hawk attack as they were trapping. The hawk pulled a few feathers but was unsuccessful. There were still a few out when the 2nd group arrived.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Today we have winds of 25 mph with gusts over 30 mph. Training is not possible.

An interesting story you might enjoy. Jim Robinson has birds in our race again this year. One of his birds, GTO 918, had been training pretty well. This bird came home from 35 miles 2 times. On the 3rd 35 mile toss he did not return. He ended up in San Antonio Texas, about 570 air miles, a couple of blocks from a pigeon racer. The pigeon racer was told of the bird and rescued him. Within a couple of weeks he had the bird fully restored and looking fantastic judging from the picture he sent. As it turns out this guy's club has a futurity race this year and unbelievably Jim has birds in their race. In fact, they just had the final race, a really tough one, and Jim won prize money in it! Wouldn't it be great to know how this bird ended up in San Antonio Texas?

The flyer asked to receive info on our Race series and was interested in participating next year.

Heavy fog today. At 10:45 there is still quite a bit. Especially in the river valley. We are unable to toss the birds today.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

I hope everyone had a genuinely happy Thanksgiving. We have so many things to be grateful for. We live in the greatest Country on the face of the earth. Our freedom was purchased by the sacrifice and lives of so many. How blessed we are. I hope everyone of you were able to be with family and enjoy your Holiday to the fullest.

We will toss the birds from 35 miles tomorrow in 2 groups.

Good luck to all,

Bobby

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Our toss didn't go like I wanted today. We weren't able to release the birds until 11:55. We still have 41 birds out but I think most will return by mid morning. I suspect the birds went slightly east and this put them in the mountains for their 1st time. If they go north they skirt the mountains and have a straight shot home. This actually is good training but I want all our birds to return. Normally after a few tosses they just head north and make it home in about an hour and 15 or 20 minutes.

We are leaving the clock hooked up tonight and will post these results tomorrow evening.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The weather forecast at 1:30 this morning showed sunny skies for today. At 10:00 with the birds still sitting in the shipping crates, we had heavy and low grey clouds with some haze.

We kept the birds home and loft flew them. A large group is still up and flying at 12:12.

We plan to toss the birds from 55 miles tomorrow.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

Our 55 mile training toss has been moved to Monday. The weather looks great for next week so hopefully we will get all our 55 mile tosses in and be ready for the 75 mile activation toss.

RIVER VALLEY ROUNDUP RACE UPDATE

The 35 mile toss from yesterday is posted. The 3 birds that clocked in positions 212-214 were not late. They were missed by the clock and re-scanned later. Their numbers are JEDD 8567, AA 25467, and SOI 8545.

We plan to toss from 55 miles tomorrow. The 2 birds that returned today will be held back to rest and recover for the next 55 mile toss.

We loft flew the birds today in 2 groups. They demonstrated health and fitness. It makes me happy to see the birds in a tight cluster, high in the sky, and flying for the entire session.

Our "visitor" will continue to clock as long as he is here but will not be eligible for any prizes. His number is SOI 8545. It will be entertaining to watch his performance.
