The older group, or first half, of entries have been trained to 10 miles. Will continue to increase the distance as long as they return in reasonable timeframe.
Younger group or half, continue to be loft flown and road training will begin within the next week or two, depending on their activity at the loft.
Earlier arrivals are beginning to take short trips(20-25 minutes). Plan to begin road training in about two weeks.
Later arrivals beginning to loft fly. Plan to have them join the older birds in approx. a week.
Early arrivals are beginning to flock and loft fly for a short time. Most are now trapping fairly well to whistle.
Later arrivals are either in settling cage or have been out on the landing board.
Overall health is good.
Just received 6 additonal birds for the race. They had been entered at an earlier date; however, the entrant was unable to ship them sooner. This will increase our entries to 144 birds.
The entry deadline has past. We received 138 birds, which is far short of goal of 300 entries; however, a number of experienced entrants have told us that this is not all that bad for the first year of a one loft race. We thank all of you for entering your birds and we will do our best to prepare them for the upcoming races.
The birds continue to be loft flown and they have settled down and are adjusting well to their new home.
Again, thank you for entering our race.
New birds continue to be added to theloft. Established birds are loft flying. Had some issues with predator capturing one or two and several being scared away from the loft. Fortunately most have returned to the loft.
Due to our delay in getting our website setup and getting the race posted on Wincompanion, we have decided to extend the entry deadline to June 15, 2017. Hopefully this will provide an extra two weeks for some potential entrants to have .birds available for the race. This extension will not change the deadline for replacement birds.
Birds loft flying today. Scattered throughout the area this afternoon but all have returned to loft by evening. Got to test their wings and homing ability to return to the loft.
Birds continue to be settled in the loft and some of the earlier arrivals have been out of the loft several times. No problems with any thus far.
