Birds out of quarantine are being added to the Inventory for 2019. Health-wise, all seem well - all birds in have received a PMV shot and are on Probiotics.
Old Birds Race series:
We had our 2nd race in Old Birds - 180 miles. The OLR birds beat the Irish this week (Team Irish did not scan 9 birds on arrival due to operator error at the loft - I had to be out of country all week - so consider this last week a bye-week). Federation results will be published when available later. It was a tough race with speeds of 1200 ypm due to headwinds and weather - we possibly dropped one or two birds (clock inventory check today)
This next week birds will be on the road - we are back to normal for our 245 mile race on Saturday.
*** If you no longer wish to receive emails - please let us know so we can clean up our distribution list ***
Now accepting 2019 Entries for Arizona Classic Derby. The first entries are in the loft - vaccinated and given a good dose of Probiotics. They are being acclimatized with Ropa B in the water. Inventory will be updated once they exit our quarantine section.
2019 will be our best yet - we are expecting increasing number of entries over last year. Please go ahead and sign up on www.arizonaclassicderby.com or let me know how many entries to expect from you and I can sign you up. Our loft capacity is 800.
Recall we were top 4 lofts in the country in ALL categories in the OLRstats.com tracking OLR races over 300 entries in the USA.
OLD BIRDS UPDATE:
For the Old Birds that were left to fly in our Arizona Federation OB races, this past week the race was cancelled from 180 miles due to the truck breaking down in roiute. As such the birds were released from ~120 miles for a training toss. Next weekend, will go back to Race #2 - Yucca (~180 miles). Results are posted here on our Updates page or for the details - racingpigeonmall.com (Arizona Federation).
Best of luck ~~~

Our 2019 Breeder Signup is Open -
For 2019, our Final is being moved from 348 miles to 365 miles Fort Hancock Station. Historically, this station is more South which would give the birds a better start and NorthWest angle to orient towards. The northern-most stations tend to orient birds towards the East which means they will be 1 hour behind the front flyers if they go towards the East to Tucson.
Along this course over the years we have seen breakaway performances between 1st and 2nd loft by 17 minutes (306 miles - 1149 ypm); 40 minutes (365 miles - 1600 ypm) and as much as 1 hour from Organ NM on a 295 mile station. I myself being beat by 40 minutes by 3 birds on short end at 365 miles..... so there is separation to be had on this course.
We look forward to a great 2019 series - no blowhome ~!!!
Best regards
Stephen F.
Received an email that we do not have a single health statement on our website:
On our Rules Page, we state ALL BIRDS RECEIVE VACCINATION ON ARRIVAL and a PMV/POX booster by July 4th.
On our Updates page, we stated in 2018 MANY TIMES the following:
Happy New Year 2019 to everyone ~!
We shipped out 21 boxes of birds this morning ~!
Our next scheduled shipment is Monday 7th January for the last few breeders that requested their birds back.
Monday shipment: Tim Brandon, Oakland Loft, Juan Romo.
Everyone else that requested their birds to date - were shipped this morning.
1. Most checks were mailed today (or put in the return shipping box with your birds).
2. Waiting on a few more W-9's.
3. Any paid entry that did not make the 1st 150 mile race - has also been refunded. Checks mailed today.
4. We will start loft-flying and training for the AZ Federation 2019 Old Birds this week if we have not heard from you. Your birds will fly in at least 3 races. There should be 8-10 races out to 540 miles and so your birds will get ample opportunity to show their stuff. We will provide weekly updates or more frequently as the series gets underway. Breeders can pay return shipping to have their birds back after the season.
Stay tuned for 2019 Arizona Classic Rules...
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and your families from Arizona Classic Derby ~~!!
We hope to see you back next year in our race which promises to be bigger and better. Several have already left credits for next year's race.
Some more stats from our race this year:
985 miles official training tosses (we had a few other tosses that were not officially clocked for whatever reason) plus at least one/two training tosses between races.
One of our differentiator is that we will NOT delay races for headwinds (and we will avoid tailwind blowhomes). We maintain a more aggressive schedule after Activation - with 5-7 days max between races. Birds that are allowed to sit for more than 7 days is NOT a good thing. Our course may possibly have some faster races before the final because of the nature of our course over Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Our Arizona and New Mexico races have historically been fast in October(both club and OLR). We start our series in November which has variable winds and sets up the birds perfectly in terms of 4 conditioning races from 150/200/250/300 and then for a tough Final. This gives you a better chance of having a trained/conditioned bird there for the Final race.
Who wants a bird that is beat up before the Final? And who wants a bird that has NOT been conditioned before the Final. Once we get into Texas for our 365 Mile Final from Ft Hancock - you need a bird that can do 8+ hrs on the wing if a tougher day so happens. We may make adjustments as needed but we dont wait for blowhome days. We will also have a new payout strategy to focus on 300/365/Average Speed with no further payout than 10% of birds going to the actual race.
I have flown this SE race course winning ALL accolades and championships in our club, I have also flown North, North West and West breaking ALL records in our club/combine/Federation - YOUR BIRDS ARE IN THE BEST HANDS !!!!!!!
ACD 350 race is officially closed.
